MUSIC THEORY & CELLO TEACHER
Mr Terry Cheng is an active performer and enthusiastic music educator in Hong Kong. He is the founder of Hong Kong Professional Music Theory Association and the current strings/cello coach in some top leading schools in Hong Kong such as Harrow International School, Marymount Secondary School and Heep Yuun School, etc. Terry Cheng has graduated with two master degree in music. He studied Master degree in cello performance in University of Chichester in UK with Professor Dr.Laura Ritchie and obtained Master of Arts in music degree in Hong Kong Baptist University. Terry also hold a bachelor degree in Education, major in Cello in Education University of Hong Kong. To further study in cello pedagogy, Terry has studies with the principal cellist in Sydney Orchestra Symphony Anthea Scott in Australia, student of Legendary Cello Educator Janos Starker Professor Stefan and Mutineer Eckhard in Vienna, obtaining a Cello pedagogy certificate from Vienna Conservatory. He is also a certificated and registered Suzuki Cello teacher in American Suzuki Association. Terry is an active performer both in classical and pop music. He is current the cellist in Hong Kong Strings Orchestra and China Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, frequently performed in Hong Kong Culture Centre and City Hall. He has worked with the most famous music director Mr. Chiu Tsang Hei and Music Director in TVB Johnny Yim. Terry has played with many top pop singers in Hong Kong such as JW, Chet Lam, kenny Chung Chun To, Kelvin Kwan, Hins Cheung. Terry has also recorded sound track in TVB and some published CDs by popular singer as a cellist. Terry is an enthusiastic educator in Hong Kong. He is now the lecturer in music institute and university to teach music theory/history/strings pedagogy. He is now lecturer in HKU SPACE, Hong Kong International Institute of Music and also Kingston University. On the other hand, his cello students was accepted by many leading conservatory around the world such as RCM, Durham University, Taxes University, master of music program from CUHK and HKBU, etc. Terry was awarded the outstanding teacher award in 2017 due to many of his students getting a high distinction in ABRSM Cello Exam. Terry is now play on an antique German Kliegenthal cello from 1850.
